I am so excited to finally share this year’s ornament release… an acorn!
I’ve been wanting to design an acorn ornament for years, but for some reason I just couldn’t crack it (pun 100% intended). This year, though, I was determined to make it happen.
I started with a bunch of rough sketches, playing with proportions and figuring out the pattern for the top. The trickiest part—and the thing that had stopped me in the past—was the negative space in the bottom half. In earlier versions, I left it open, but it always felt like the design didn’t quite “read” as an acorn.
The breakthrough came when I added curved lines to suggest that smooth, round acorn shape. Paired with the scallop-patterned top, it finally looked exactly the way I’d imagined it in my head all these years.
Not gonna lie—carving out every tiny scallop was tedious. I had to take it slow and steady to avoid cracking the wax. Every single scallop felt like a dare from the universe, and I was honestly shocked (and very relieved) that I made it through without breaking it.
Once the wax was polished, off it went to the caster for the master model. When I got the finished casting back, I was over the moon. It barely needed any cleanup—just a little filing—before heading to another caster for molding and production.
The 2025 holiday collection launches October 15 and will include the full lineup of ornaments, icicles, and a few fun surprises. Can’t wait to share them with you!
